Stage Craft
“Whitewashing” is a theme in this play, but the attempted cleanliness actually hides the true ugliness of this community. Our production was staged in-the-round - with 360 degrees of whitewashed pallets in the balcony, behind which whispers of the townspeople could be heard throughout the play. The audience was positioned as “witness” to the atrocities in the play, after several characters take the central “witness stand” and deny culpability in the death of an outsider.
